What are dermal fillers made of?

Most dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance that occurs naturally in your skin. HA attracts and holds water, which is what gives skin its hydrated, plump look. As we age, we lose volume from fat, bone, and skin thinning — fillers replace what time has taken.

What areas can dermal filler treat?

We use filler for lip enhancement, cheeks, under-eye hollows (tear troughs), nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jawline definition, chin projection, and non-surgical rhinoplasty. Your provider will recommend the right product and placement for each area.

Which filler brands do you use?

We carry a wide range of FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers including the Juvéderm and Restylane families, plus biostimulating options like Radiesse and Sculptra (covered in their own FAQ).

When will I see results from filler?

Results are visible immediately, but the product takes about two weeks to fully settle. Don’t judge final results until you’ve passed that two-week mark — some swelling is expected during that window.

How long does dermal filler last?

Anywhere from 6 to 18+ months, depending on the product, the treatment area, and how quickly your body metabolizes HA. Lip filler tends to be on the shorter end; deeper structural filler in the cheeks or jawline lasts longer.

What are the most common side effects?

Swelling, tenderness, small bumps, and bruising. Lip swelling can look dramatic for the first 24–48 hours and then settles considerably. Bruising varies person to person; some patients have none.

How can I reduce bruising after filler?

Avoid alcohol, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E for several days before your appointment. Arnica (oral or topical) can help reduce bruising before and after treatment. Ice gently after.

What’s the aftercare for dermal filler?

• Apply ice for comfort.
• Avoid sleeping on the treated area for the first night.
• No touching, rubbing, or massaging unless your injector instructs you to.
• Skip exercise and alcohol for 24–48 hours.
• No makeup over the area for 24 hours.
• Avoid NSAIDs for 48 hours.
• Arnica pills or gel can help minimize bruising.

Can filler be reversed?

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. This is one of the reasons we love HA filler — it gives both you and your provider flexibility.

I have a big event coming up. When should I get filler?

For best results, schedule filler at least 2 weeks before your event so swelling can resolve and the product can settle. If you only have a few days, talk to us — we may suggest Botox or another treatment instead.

Will filler make me look “overdone”?

Not at our practice. Our philosophy is balance — we build naturally beautiful structure rather than over-filling. If you want a softer or more conservative look, just tell your injector.
