Microneedling FAQs

Questions about SkinPen microneedling at Luxe House — the only FDA-cleared microneedling device for the face and body.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses very fine needles to create thousands of micro-channels in the top layer of your skin. This stimulates your body’s natural healing response, which produces new collagen and elastin and improves overall tone and texture.

What does microneedling treat?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles around the face, eyes, and neck
  • Acne scarring and active breakouts
  • Sun damage and pigmentation
  • Rosacea
  • Enlarged pores
  • Loss of firmness and skin laxity
  • Stretch marks (when treated on the body)

What device do you use?

We use SkinPen — the first FDA-cleared microneedling device for the face and body. SkinPen uses sterile, single-use needle cartridges and offers precise depth control, making it both safer and more effective than older or non-cleared devices.

Does microneedling hurt?

Your provider applies a prescription-strength topical numbing cream for 15–20 minutes before treatment. Once the skin is numb, most patients describe the procedure as mild pressure or vibration with minimal discomfort.

How long is a microneedling appointment?

About 45 minutes to an hour total — including cleansing, 15–20 minutes of numbing, the treatment itself (around 20 minutes), and a soothing hydrating mask to finish.

What should I expect after microneedling?

Your skin will look pink to red, similar to a mild sunburn, for 24–72 hours. You may feel slight tightness or sensitivity. We don’t recommend scheduling microneedling right before an important event.

Is SkinPen safe for all skin types?

Yes — SkinPen is safe and effective for every skin type and tone. We do not recommend microneedling for patients with a history of keloid scarring.

When will I see results from microneedling?

You’ll notice some glow and smoothness right after your first treatment, but optimal results show up at 4–6 weeks as your body builds new collagen. For the best outcome, we recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

How long do results last?

Initial results typically last 3–5 months. Many patients schedule maintenance microneedling 2–4 times per year to keep collagen production active.

Can I combine microneedling with PRP/PRF?

Yes — microneedling with PRP (sometimes called the “vampire facial”) amplifies results by delivering your own growth factors into the channels created by the needling. We recommend this combination for patients focused on tone, scarring, or anti-aging.

What are the pre-treatment instructions?

  • Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours before.
  • Stop retinoids 12 hours before.
  • Reschedule if you have an active breakout, cold sore, or open lesion.
  • Wait 3 months after Accutane.
  • Wait at least 48 hours before Botox; wait 2 weeks after Botox.
  • Wait 2 weeks before or after dermal filler.
  • Wait 1 month before or after IPL, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion.
